The Rise of Skywalker's Billy Dee Williams Comments on Online Hate Younger Star Wars Actors Have Received

Fans were delighted when it was revealed that Billy Dee Williams would return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, reprising his role as Lando Calrissian, with everyone loving how he laughed when piloting the Millenium Falcon again. It seems like The Rise of Skywalker is going to be less divisive than The Last Jedi, with the return of J.J. Abrams and including nostalgic elements from previous movies, like Emperor Palpatine.

Williams has spoken up about working with the younger cast and acknowledged all of the online hate they have been getting, particularly Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), Daisy Ridley (Rey), and John Boyega (Finn). He encouraged the younger actors to continue making art and not give in to the rage that the online hate could cause, much like a wise Jedi master.

Lando is a Jedi confirmed? Nah, just pulling your leg. Here's what Williams told Esquire:

"You're always going to have people making stupid comments. One deals with indignities all the time. Do you sit around with vengeance in your soul? You can't do that. I'm not forcing people to listen to my point of view, but if I can present it in some creative fashion—I'm the painter, tweaking, adding, contributing, putting in something that you haven't thought about, maybe."

Hopefully, the younger Star Wars actors and anyone else who might be dealing with hate heed his advice. It can be frustrating when people just want to see you fall for no reason whatsoever. This shouldn't just be about being the bigger person; it should be about being good and inspiring others to do the same.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be coming out on December 20.
