The Force Awakens introduced us to the pair, Rey and Kylo Ren, whose relationship has been the topic of debate among Star Wars fans. However, Reylo fans are convinced that the two have a budding romance that will grow even further in The Rise of Skywalker, and it seems like they aren't entirely wrong.
A fan took to Twitter to translate a recent interview director J.J. Abrams had with the Spanish outlet, La Voz de Galicia. Abrams was asked regarding the special connection that both characters have developed in the sequel trilogy.
He says that what Rey and Kylo Ren have "is very unique." Their connection is something "within the force" and this will be explored in the upcoming film "closely." The director claims that this connection will be the "backbone" of the movie. Which is something he's "looking forward to people seeing."
In another interview, Daisy Ridley revealed that the "intensity continues" between Kylo and Ren in The Rise of Skywalker. The chemistry between both characters is "infectious," which is why the actress claims that the fans shouldn't miss "any of that." To add, Abrams also mentioned in a different interview that the two are connected in a "profound way."
Understandably, when these interviews are all piled up, one would think that the story seems to address the characters' growing relationship. And while there is a possibility of a romantic bond, we couldn't just rule out that the said connection could be something other than romance.
We could only find out what exactly this connection means when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
