The Punisher's Ben Barnes has Talked to Marvel Studios About Playing a Different Character

Marvel Studios has recently let it be known that you can be cast in one of their movies or shows and still get a new role. This seemed to be taboo before but ever since Mahershala Ali was cast as the lead in Blade after a well-known stint as Cottonmouth in Luke Cage, it seems like the floodgates have opened. Gemma Chan, who played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel, will also be returning to the studio as a member of Eternals.

It turns out that The Punisher star Ben Barnes was also in consideration for a different role after a stint as Jigsaw in the show's two seasons. Speaking with Digital Spy, Barnes confirmed that he has had talks with Marvel Studios to play a different character but it seems like the company is waiting for enough time to pass so that people forget that he was ever Jigsaw, at least that's according to Barnes.

"I did talk to them about something this year, but it was a bit too close to doing The Punisher, I think, for them," Barnes shared. "But, you know, they have proof that you can – particularly if it was on TV, you can go back and do a movie if there's a character that's right. I was definitely talking about a couple of superheroes last year."

With Disney+ essentially dooming all of the Marvel shows on Netflix, it would only be fair to see some of these actors return in a different role or even reprise older ones. Fans are hoping to see Charlie Cox as Daredevil in the MCU Spider-Man 3, though they wouldn't mind if Barnes ends up as someone else aside from Jigsaw.

The Punisher can still be streamed on Netflix, though we won't know how long it will stay there.
