The Proud Family Set to Return With Brand New Episodes on Disney+

And The Proud Family is back. Well, is on its way at least, confirms Jo Marie Payton.

The actress behind the voice of everyone's favorite animated grandma from the early ‘00s Suga Mama was on Tuesday's episode of Strahan, Sara and Keke when she confirmed the news. It came as a response to Keke's question of whether or not she was anything like her beloved and hilarious character.

"Yeah. Suga's large and in charge, that's all I've got to say -- except for Suga Mama will be doing some new episodes come February," the actress teased.

This follows reports from last August of Tommy Davidson, who played the Proud family patriarch's Oscar Proud, who also confirmed a reboot in an interview with Where Is The Buzz.

The show was most notably one of the very few animated series at the time to focus on an African American family and had guest stars like Gabriel Union, Kobe Bryant, and Mariah Carey.

The original version of the series ran for three seasons on Disney Channel from 2001 to 2005 and was comprised of 53 episodes. It starred Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Karen Malina White as Dijonay, Orlando Brown as Sticky, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey, Alisa Reyes as LaCienega, and Paula Jai Parker as Proud family matriarch Trudy.

Disney+ is also set to air a Lizzie McGuire revival, another popular TV series from the early ‘00s.
