The Conjuring's cinematic universe continues to expand with The Nun 2.
Now that everything seems to be coming to a full circle, fans are left with the expectation that the Warrens will be returning on the big screens with yet another upcoming sequel.
With how The Nun 2 ended things unclearly, there is no doubt that we're getting a continuation of the story. But the question is, will there actually be a The Nun 3?
Here is everything you need to know about its release date, cast, plot, and trailer.
Has The Nun 3 Been Confirmed?
The Nun 3 hasn't been officially announced by Warner Bros. Pictures, but the post-credit scene of The Nun 2 is likely setting up a continuation of the series, or possibly, the franchise.
Although it hasn't been confirmed yet, director Michael Chaves has recently spoken with SFX Magazine, shedding light on how The Nun 2 might not be the last time we'll be seeing the Conjuring franchise grace the big screens:
"There's a line in the movie: 'Demons are infinite.' I like the idea that she's always been here in different forms. I think that there are still more stories of Valak the demon nun to be told. I wouldn't want to give anything away, but this is continuing the timeline. Anyone who saw the first Conjuring knows that Maurice is possessed and then exorcised by the Warrens, and we know that that happens in the late '60s in the Conjuring timeline.
"There are other big ideas and big swings in there, and it's filled with a bunch of cool Easter eggs. Without giving anything away it continues to fill out the picture and the bigger canvas."
It's safe to say that The Nun 2 is not where fans will be left off in the cinematic universe of the Conjuring, but there has been news about Conjuring: Last Rites, the fourth (and probably the last) installment for the franchise.
Then again, director Chaves previously left an ambiguous note to say that Last Rites will be the final installment of 'the franchise', only to add that there may be more than that.
Possible The Nun 3 Cast: Who Could Return For The Threequel?
Since The Nun 3 hasn't been confirmed yet, the official cast list for the threequel has yet to be announced.
However, taking what happened in The Nun 2, our best guess would be that the main cast will most likely be returning.
What is left uncertain is whether Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) will still be coming back, since it is also unconfirmed whether The Nun 3 will set her in the spotlight yet again or not.
For now, here is the full list of the main cast that starred in The Nun 2:
- Bonnie Aarons as Valak
- Jonas Bloquet as Maurice
- Vera Farmiga as Lorraine Warren
- Patrick Wilson as Ed Warren
- Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene (unconfirmed)

Does The Nun 2 Set Up The Nun 3 or The Conjuring 4?
The Nun 2's post-credit scenes definitely left things hanging in the air, what with the Warrens receiving yet another call from the priest, Father Gordon, asking them to return for another supernatural occurrence.
The return of Ed and Lorraine Warren not only connects The Nun series to the main Conjuring movies' cinematic universe and timeline but also sets up the upcoming sequel.
For now, we can take director Chaves' word (via Entertainment Weekly) that Last Rites is going to be "that final chapter, so it is a little bit of a tease of that."
The director also said that the final film of the franchise will be returning to the Warrens to tackle the case of Maurice, which is quite fitting for the film to come to a full circle for the timeline to work.
As previously mentioned, it remains unknown whether The Nun 2 will continue their story with The Nun 3 or Conjuring: Last Rites. But if more news comes to view, we'll be sure to keep this article up-to-date.
