Gina Carano's career has always been promising but it was propelled to even greater heights thanks to her involvement in The Mandalorian which pretty much helped her become an overnight sensation. However, her tenure in the Star Wars franchise was cut short after Lucasfilm unceremoniously fired her from the series.
Carano's ousting from the production company instantly made headlines and a few weeks removed from the unfortunate incident, people are still talking about it. Apparently, her removal from the show had serious ramifications that may have affected the series' overall performance.
According to a new listing from What's On Disney+ (via Bounding Into Comics), a website that has been tracking the popular streaming shows and films on a weekly basis, the general interest in the Star Wars franchise and The Mandalorian specifically has dropped significantly since Carano's Disney termination.
Now, it may not be entirely true and the reason for The Mandalorian plummeting in viewership and popularity could be due to the fact that Disney+ users are currently glued to Marvel Studios' WandaVision. On the other hand, the possibility of Carano's supporters actually canceling their respective Disney+ subscriptions may have also affected the show's overall performance.
I guess we'll never truly know but what I am sure of is that Carano's shocking departure from the show will change the course and complexion of the entire "Mandoverse" heading forward. And with Season 3's production set to begin a few weeks from now, it'll be interesting how Lucasfilm will actually deal with the Cara Dune issue. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, The Mandalorian Season 3 will begin filming in April.
