Say what you will about The Mandalorian's divisive third season but you can't deny the fact that it started off pretty great. One of the best things about the season is the hair-raising debut of the Mythosaur, a mythical monster that has long been thought to be nothing more than a mere fable in Mandalorian culture.

However, viewers were disappointed after the awe-inspiring monster only showed up for one episode. Now, Dave Filoni reveals that they never planned on utilizing the Mythosaur.

When the Mythosaur emerged in Chapter 18, fans expected the mythical creature to play a pivotal role in the season, with some speculating that it'll help the Mandalorians thwart Moff Gideon's plans of taking over Mandalore.

Shockingly enough, the Mythosaur was nowhere to be found during Season 3's finale which naturally bummed a lot of fans out. Apparently, Filoni never intended to show the legendary gargantuan in full and its appearance was just a way to set up Bo-Katan's progressing arc.

In the latest Disney Gallery episode centered on the making of The Mandalorian Season 3 (via ComicBook), the Star Wars showrunner explained: "The Mythosaur moment for her is a moment of faith where she sees something that should be impossible, and she is asked to believe in it."

Filoni added: "If the creature gets up out of the water and reveals itself, it's just way too obvious. It has to be something isolated, something only she sees. She has to make a choice: do I trust my eyes? Did I really see that? Is that really possible?"

It's a huge bummer that the whole Mythosaur tease never got its payoff because let's be honest, most of us were expecting either Din Djarin or Bo-Katan to ride it in battle. Hopefully, fans will finally get a full look at the creature in the upcoming season.

All three seasons of The Mandalorian are available to stream on Disney+.
