The Mandalorian: George Lucas told Jon Favreau who the ‘Real Audience’ of Star Wars is

Jon Favreau is once again under the spotlight with the release of The Lion King, but what fans really want to see is his live-action Star Wars series The Mandalorian, which comes out later this year. Favreau actually got some advice from George Lucas about working on the franchise, and Favreau talks a bit about what he learned from him.

Talking to GQ Middle East Favreau said:

"We had a long talk with each other… One thing he said to me was, 'remember, Jon, the real audience for all stories and all myths is the kids that are coming of age', because he's really a Joseph Campbell adherent."

"We enjoy the stories as adults, but really, storytelling is about imparting the wisdom of the previous generations on to the children who are becoming adults, and giving them a context for how to behave and how to learn the lessons of the past without making the mistakes on their own. That's the hope, that you can teach them how to avoid all the hardship but garner all the wisdom."

With all these arguments on who Star Wars really is for, I think it's great that we got some more insights as to who Lucas thinks the movies are being made for. Lucas did admit before that he was making the films for "12-year-olds", but it didn't really sit well with a lot of fans. I guess "kids that are coming of age" sounds a bit better?

For now, Disney is yet to drop our first official teaser for The Mandalorian, and it's frustrating fans to no end. Hopefully, we finally get a look at the show come the D23 Expo next month.

Catch The Mandalorian when it debuts alongside Disney+ on Nov. 12. Catch Jon Favreau's The Lion King in theaters today.
