As it stands, we still know very little about the upcoming The Lord of the Rings prequel series over at Amazon, and understandably so. The series' production has been put on hold following the COVID-19 restrictions but we can already say that it's shaping up to be one massive television event especially now that we might have just learned where the show's story could primarily take place.

It's safe to assume that Amazon was eyeing a 2021 release for the LOTR prequel but no official confirmation has been made, However, it looks like they're slowly putting the puzzle pieces together as it was recently announced that over 20 new cast members have been added to the show's impressive and stellar ensemble, including Peter Mullan, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Benjamin Walker, Sir Lenny Henry, and Kip Chapman among others.

Now, the official synopsis for the show has apparently been leaked online and it may give fans a direct hint at the series' main focus which is set over a thousand years before the events of The Hobbit and the original The Lord of The Rings trilogy.

TheOneRing.net has obtained the "leaked" synopsis and it pretty much teases that the prequel show could be built around the Fall of Númenor. Check it out below:

This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien's pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.

It's been three years since Amazon acquired the television rights to the successful fantasy franchise but we may have to wait a little longer to get fresh updates from the highly anticipated project. I gotta say though, the moment this show finally drops, the agonizing wait will be totally worth it especially if you grew up loving the original film trilogy, as well as the spinoff projects it spawned.

The official release date for Amazon's The Lord of the Rings TV show has yet to be confirmed.
