The Little Mermaid: PotC's Javier Bardem Said to be in Talks to Play King Triton

Disney's live-action Little Mermaid is coming along nicely with the announcements for Halle Bailey playing Ariel, and news that Harry Styles is being asked to play Prince Eric. What's interesting is, the movie may as well have found their King Triton.

As per The DisInsider, Javier Bardem (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) is in talks to play the rule of Atlantis. The site writes:

We have heard multiple names for the role of King Triton, but our sources say it is indeed Bardem in talks. It should be noted that this source also let us know last week about Harry Styles.

While a lot of people were expecting Triton to be played by a black actor, I think making Ariel bi-racial is a fine move. Then again, I don't think race is really an issue since we're talking about a group of fictional fish people.

If Bardem would land the role, he would be joining a cast which already includes the likes of Jacob Tremblay (Flounder) and Awkwafina (Scuttle the Seagull). I guess the only major roles left for the film are Sebastian the Crab and of course, Ursula the Sea Witch.

With all this diversity in casting, I'm kind of hoping that Disney finally gets Ursula played by a drag queen. After all, the original animated Ursula was inspired by 70s drag queen Divine, and a lot of fans suddenly put Twitter aflame when it was announced that Disney was considering Melissa McCarthy. No offense to her, but I think I know who would be perfect for Ursula:

No release date has been set for Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid.
