Total Film managed to sit down with Wes Ball to discuss the upcoming Legend of Zelda live-action movie.

The Legend of Zelda franchise is finally making its way to the big screen, following in the footsteps of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Nintendo's fantasy series follows the adventures of a boy called Link who is awoken to save Hyrule time and time again.

Ball said he wants to “fulfill people’s greatest desires” and allow the fans to escape while watching the movie. This is a far cry from other directors' mindsets when it comes to adapting other beloved video game franchises.

The statement is refreshing and welcoming and gives hope for the upcoming adventure in Hyrule. Ball said:

“I have this awesome idea. I’ve been thinking about it for a long freakin’ time, of how cool a Zelda movie would be… I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape.”

He went on to say that he wants the movie to be serious and cool but fun and whimsical, "it’s got to feel like something real"

The Legend of Zelda series of games follows Link a boy usually tasked with saving the Kingdom of Hyrule from the evil forces of Ganon, who normally kidnaps Princess Zelda and/or takes over Hyrule Castle.

It is no surprise that, after the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which raked in a cool $1.36 billion worldwide, Nintendo wants to put more of its beloved franchises on the big screen.

Instead of being an animated movie like Super Mario, Legend of Zelda is currently set to be a live-action adaptation of the fantasy RPG.

No cast or release date for The Legend of Zelda has been revealed at the time of writing.
