The Daily Show’s Ronny Chieng Joins Marvel's Shang-Chi

The Daily Show's Ronny Chieng is probably best known for his ‘angry' demeanor and hot-take comedy, and it looks like he's joining one of the biggest box office franchises of all time.

According to DiscussingFilm, Chieng has joined the cast of Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. With production currently shut down, it's said that Chieng was cast before everything went on lockdown, and for now, it's still unclear whether he was able to shoot his scenes or not.

Besides The Daily Show, Chieng had starred in Crazy Rich Asians and the Australian comedy series Ronny Chieng: International Student. He also has a great stand-up special on Netflix called Ronny Chieng: Asian Comedian Destroys America!.

Seeing that comedians usually have very small roles in Marvel films, I think Chieng's part could be comparable to that of Randall Park's role in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Then again, I would be open to him having a major role in the film, I just hope that they bank in on his signature ‘angry' comedy.

Besides Chieng, the cast includes Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh, Simu Liu will be playing the titular part of Shang-Chi with Tony Leung cast as the ‘original' Mandarin. Directing duties fall to Destin Daniel Cretton working with a script from Dave Callaham.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to come out on May 7, 2021.
