Matt Reeves' The Batman is yet to make its debut but an original DC drama has already been ordered for HBO Max featuring the Gotham City Police Department set in the world Reeves is creating for his feature film!

HBO Max recently announced that it has given a series commitment to a DC series from Reeves, Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, The Batman producer Dylan Clark, and Warner Bros. Television.

As mentioned, the series will be set in the world of The Batman, building upon the "motion picture's examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City" which will launch a new Batman universe across multiple platforms.

Set to explore other characters of Gotham, this series serves as Reeves' first TV project under his deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group. "This is an amazing opportunity," the director said. "Not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a long-form format can afford."

Reeves noted that it's "an absolute dream" to work with Winter, who has written, "so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption."

"This is Batman as most audiences have never seen before," HBO Max Chief content officer Kevin Reill says. "And we know fans will want to spend more time in this new world inspired by the film." The collaboration with WB and DC allows them to "elaborate and grow fan connections" across these brands in the years to come.

The series is yet to have a release date, while The Batman arrives in theaters on October 1, 2021.
