The Batman: Robert Pattinson Discusses His Take on the Hero's Infamous No-Kill Rule

For years, Batman has had the infamous no-kill rule in which he doesn't kill the villains that he's fighting no matter what. However, the rule has been broken by several issues in the comics and in some of the feature films featuring the character. It has also sparked a debate among the fans whether the rule has to be followed or not. The recent episode of Peacemaker even poked fun at the rule with the titular character calling Batman a "p*ssy."

Robert Pattinson, who is set to play the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves' The Batman, has chimed in on the debate in which he discussed his thoughts on the infamous rule during an interview with Premiere. He said, "There is this rule with Batman: he must not kill. It can be interpreted in two ways. Either he only wants to inflict the appropriate punishment, or he wants to kill and his self-control prevents him from doing so."

In the same interview, Pattinson also discussed how his take on the character enjoys fighting all the bad guys that he's facing off and taking pleasure with it as a result of his traumatic experience regarding his parents' death in the past as "he manages to convince himself that every guy in front of him is the one who killed his mother." In the end, even though he takes pleasure in hurting those people, he still needs to stop himself from going too far.

It is apparent in the trailers for The Batman that Pattinson's fighting style as the character is going to be more vicious and brutal than the other cinematic iterations of the characters in the past which will certainly align with the darker tone of the film. Whether the character will actually adhere to the infamous no-kill rule, it looks like we will find out about it once we see the film in just several weeks.
