The Batman Producer Compares Colin Farrell's Penguin Spin-off to Scarface

There is already much hype about The Penguin, the HBO Max spin-off series following Colin Farrell's character in The Batman. But what exactly can we expect in Oswald Cobblepot's standalone show? The Batman producer Dylan Clark has teased about the new project, and he's comparing it to the Al Pacino classic Scarface!

Back in December, it was confirmed that Penguin will get his own spin-off series that will be released on HBO Max. Back then, details about the show have been kept under wraps but now we are slowly learning more about the project. For instance, Dylan Clark has somehow confirmed that it is set to be a gritty, action-packed show!

Clark serves as producer on The Batman and he has confirmed that he will be involved in The Penguin. While talking to SFX Magazine, Clark made an interesting comparison to a cinematic classic.

"We’re doing [a spinoff] with [Farrell], seeing Oz rise to power, almost like a Scarface story," Clark said. In addition to that, he teased how the spin-off will explain some things that happened in The Batman.

"It’s exciting to do something like that just as a standalone, but it speaks to the character and our movie. So that you’ll go back to the movie [and say], 'Oh, I see that backstory there, that line refers to this,'" Clark said.

So does this mean that The Penguin will take place right after the events in The Batman? Colin Farrell himself has somehow teased that the series will serve as a sequel to the film.

"We have to get into what made him the man he is. And also, it will pick up where this film finished off I think. I think it'll pick up a little short time after the last frame of this film," Farrell previously said. "We'll get to go on a little kind of left turn off to the world of Oz and how he's beginning to kind of dream of filling a potential power vacuum that may exist."

The Penguin has not yet been given an official release date. Meanwhile, The Batman will hit theaters on March 4, 2022.
