Barry Keoghan is currently having the run of his career thanks to his involvement in both the Marvel and DC film franchises. Following the success of Marvel Studios' Eternals where he plays Druig, the Irish actor is set to appear in Matt Reeves' highly-anticipated The Batman film but a lot of mystery surrounds the character he plays.

What initially was believed to be a minor role as Commissioner James Gordon's apprentice Stanley Merkel is seemingly not what it seems because according to the latest rumors, Keoghan is actually playing the "Reeves-Verse" version of the Joker.

The Clown Prince of Crime rumors actually started spreading late last year but wasn't a shred of clear evidence linking his character to the iconic Batman villain. This time around, test screenings for The Batman have seemingly confirmed the Joker speculation.

The Hollywood Reporter shared that WB tested two cuts of the film, one with Keoghan and one without. That alone tells you that the actor is actually playing a more substantial role in the film. An anonymous tipster who allegedly saw the said test screening featuring Barry said that his character is actually an Arkham inmate who's in a cell next to Ridder. He's even said to have a laugh that is similar to a Hyena.

Multiple Hollywood tipsters — from ViewerAnon to BigScreenLeaks have backed up the claim which further fueled speculation regarding his true involvement in the upcoming film. If that's actually the case, then it's safe to say that we're not that far from seeing another big-screen showdown between Batman and Joker.

The Batman is slated to hit cinemas on March 4, 2022.
