The Ancient Magus' Bride also known as Mahotsukai no Yome, is a manga written and illustrated by Kore Yamazaki which got an anime adaptation and a prequel OVA by Wit Studio from 2017 to 2018. It looks this isn't the last of The Ancient Magus' Bride on our screens! A new 3-part OAD titled The Ancient Magus' Bride: Nishi no Shonen to Seiran no Kishi has been confirmed. Ancient Magus' Bride: Nishi no Shonen to Seiran no Kishi Creators
Ancient Magus' Bride: Nishi no Shonen to Seiran no Kishi might look a little different from what you're used to from the Wit Studio adaptation, as it will be produced by Studio Kafka – a new anime studio established by Twin Engine. This OAD (original animation DVD) will be their first work that we know of.
The new Ancient Magus' Bride show will be directed by Kazuaki Terasawa who also worked with Overlord II and III. The rest of the team is a mixture of creators who have worked on Ancient Magus' Bride before, like scriptwriter Aya Takaha and Hirotaka Kato, who will be working on character design. New team members include but are not limited to scriptwriter Yoko Yonaiyama.
Ancient Magus' Bride: Nishi no Shonen to Seiran no Kishi Plot
Ancient Magus' Bride follows Hatori Chise, a Japanese orphan who is taken to London by Elias, an ancient magus, and becomes his apprentice. Learning how to use magic and unlocking potential she didn't know she had, Chise makes friends, learns about the world, and eventually finds the will to start living.
The original OAD will take place after the end of the Ancient Magus' Bride anime, at a time when Chise prepares to leave for the academy. But her ordinary day with Elias will be disrupted when they find out about the appearance of a ghost hunting association at an unusual time.
The anime will also follow Gabriel, a boy who just moved from London and will be implicated in Chise's magical world when he goes after a paranormal occurrence.
Ancient Magus' Bride: Nishi no Shonen to Seiran no Kishi Release Date
If all this sounds too good to be true for fans of anime and manga, we have more good news. The first of the three new Ancient Magus' Bride OADs will be released on the 10th of September 2021, so not too far in the future.
It will come out together with the special edition of volume 16 of the manga. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a bit longer for the remaining two, as they will be bundled with the special editions of later volumes – but that's still something to look forward to.
