Taika Waititi Mocks Christian Group Trying to Boycott Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder continues to perform well at the box office but the Taika Waititi-directed Marvel flick has been stirring controversy as of late. Not only is the fourth Thor film getting mixed reviews from fans and critics for its overly comedic tone, Love and Thunder is also being questioned by some for its LGBTQ+ themes.

In fact, Chinese theaters have banned the Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster for putting the spotlight on characters like Valkyrie, a bisexual and Korg who is apparently gay. Now, the film has become a major concern for the Christian group One Million Moms and its members believe Love and Thunder is "pushing the LGBTQ agenda".

OMM has since started a movement to boycott Thor 4 and it turns out that the massive outcry has already come to Waititi's attention. Well, it doesn't look like the MCU director is all that threatened about the group influencing folks to avoid seeing the film.

Taking to his official Instagram account, the filmmaker celebrated Thor: Love and Thunder's second week sitting atop the worldwide box office and in true Taika fashion, chose to poke some fun at the Christian group's plans to sabotage the film. He wrote: "Week 2 at number 1 baby! My sincerest apologies to the Christian group One Million Moms."

There's no denying that Marvel Studios has been making efforts to champion equality and diversity in the franchise for years now. While I understand that it's still deemed taboo by some folks, the least they could do is have some respect.

Thor: Love and Thunder is still screening in cinemas. Meanwhile, the film is hitting Disney+ on August 22.
