Sword Art Online took on Anime Japan 2022 with several awesome updates this Sunday. In addition to confirming plans for the franchise's 10th year anniversary, there was great news about a second Progressive anime film and even an update on the home release for Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night!
The Sword Art Online RED stage panel at Anime Japan 2022 was attended by Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Haruka Tomatsu, Ai Kayano, Nobunaga Shimazaki, Rina Hidaka, Ayahi Takagaki, and ReoNa. During the event, the first teaser for the new movie Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Kuraki Yuyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Dark Dusk) was unveiled. Check it out below.
Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Kuraki Yūyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Dark Dusk) is the second film in the franchise's Progressive movie series. The new anime is expected to premiere later this fall.
The second Progressive film isn't the only one that got a major update. it was also confirmed during the event that the home video release of Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night is set for July. The news was unveiled through a new video.
Finally, a video for Sword Art Online's 10th anniversary was unveiled at the event. The franchise will host a 10th-anniversary event in Tokyo later in November.
The anime is based on Reki Kawahara's Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series. Launched back in 2012, the story follows Kirito's journey through the floating Aincrad castle, going through the structure floor-by-floor.
Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Kuraki Yūyami no Scherzo (Scherzo of a Dark Dusk) has not yet been given an official release date but is scheduled to premiere in Japan in Fall 2022. The home video release of Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night is set for July 8, 2022. The Sword Art Online 10th-year anniversary project will be on November 6, 2022.
