Netflix apocalyptic horror K-Drama series Sweet Home will return.
On June 15, the streamer officially renewed the series for two more seasons, which will be produced back-to-back. Season 1 director Lee Eung-bok is confirmed to return to helm both Seasons 2 and 3.
“In these new seasons, Sweet Home will take on a larger scale with an expanded storyline and cast,” Netflix said in a statement.
The first season of Sweet Home premiered on Netflix on December 18, 2020, and it became Netflix's first-ever original South Korean series to make it to the streamer's Top 10 list in the United States, peaking top 3. It later claimed the top spot in eight global regions and was within the Top 10 in 42 regions.
Sweet Home is based on the Naver WEBTOON of the same title by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-cha.

Sweet Home Season 2 Release Date
Since Netflix renewed Sweet Home for two more seasons in early 2022, don't expect an official release date for Season 2 anytime soon, but we will update you here on Epicstream.com once the streamer confirms a release date.
Netflix already shared its list of movies and TV shows coming in November 2022, and unfortunately, Sweet Home Season 2 is not included in the list, so it's likely that the new season won't be released until Q3 2023 or later.
It was also rumored that the show could be released on December 15, 2023. True enough, Netflix released a date announcement trailer for the new season, which will come out on December 1, 2023.

Sweet Home Season 2 Plot
Sweet Home director Lee Eung-bok has previously stated that he wants the Netflix show to be faithful to the original webtoon the series is based on.
Despite the filmmaker's intentions, Season 1 of Sweet Home notably featured several changes that were not in the source material, including a tweaked storyline and some new characters.
During a press conference for Sweet Home, Lee revealed that he and his team had already finished Season 2's storyline.
“While we were writing, we completed the end of the storyline ourselves so there are a couple things that came out after we were done,” Lee said, as translated by Soompi. “If the opportunity arises, we want to also introduce the monsters that we weren’t able to.”
In Season 1, Cha Hyun-soo (Song Kang) and a group of neighbors gathered together to confront dangerous creatures bent on destroying civilization.
The protagonists of Sweet Home are forced to decide whether to team up together or work alone, which results in major character developments and plot twists across the ten episodes of the first season.
After barely escaping the Green Home, Hyun Soo was captured by the military, while Sang Wook (Lee Jin Wook) showed up with his burn scars having been healed.
Without going over major spoilers, Season 2 is expected to expand the conflict introduced in the first season.
“Season 2 will include a new setting,” said Lee during the announcement. “I believe the technical details we couldn’t refine in Season 1 will be honed in Season 2,” he added.
Sweet Home Season 2 Cast
Sweet Home's leads Song Kang and Lee Jin-uk, are confirmed to return for Seasons 2 and 3, along with Lee Si-young, Ko Min-si, Park Kyu-young.
Furthermore, newcomers to the cast of the show include Yoo Oh-seong, Oh Jung-se, Kim Moo-yeol and Jung Jin-young.
Yoo Oh Sung (The Veil, Tomb of the River) will play the role of Sergeant Tak In Hwan who leads the Special Forces Guard formed to protect the safety of the citizens from monsters.
Oh Jung Se (Jirisan, It's Okay to Not Be Okay, When the Camelia Blooms) will play Doctor Im, a researcher of vaccines.
Kim Moo Yeol (Juvenile Justice, Grid) will play Kim Young Hoo, a former UDT (Republic of Korea Navy Special Warfare Flotilla) sergeant who is now second-in-command of the Special Forces Guard.
Jung Jinyoung (Police University, My First First Love) will play the role of Private Park Chan Young of the Special Forces Guard.
We don't know yet if Go Yoon-jung will be back in the new season.
Along with Netflix's renewal of Sweet Home, Netflix shared photos of the cast wearing matching shirts with the text for “Sweet Home” Seasons 2 and 3.
