Superman Finally Comes Out as Bisexual

The new Superman has discovered something truly remarkable about himself. In the latest issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El, the Man of Steel has finally come out as bisexual.

In the comic books, Jon Kent is the new Superman of Earth. The son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane has taken over his father's mantle and is the new savior of the planet. However, Jon is also learning something about himself every day. In the November 9 issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El, Jon officially comes out as bisexual as he becomes romantically involved with college friend Joe Nakamura.

Writer Tom Taylor spoke about Superman's new story arc, admitting that he is proud to be part of Jon's milestone.

"I've always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I'm very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea," Taylor told The Hollywood Reporter. "Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics."

DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Jim Lee also confirmed his pride in Superman's new story arc.

"We couldn't be prouder to tell this important story from Tom Taylor and John Timms," Lee said. "We talk a lot about the power of the DC Multiverse in our storytelling and this is another incredible example. We can have Jon Kent exploring his identity in the comics as well as Jon Kent learning the secrets of his family on TV on Superman & Lois. They coexist in their own worlds and times, and our fans get to enjoy both simultaneously."

Superman isn't the first DC comic book hero to come out as bisexual. Back in August, the new Robin Tim Drake came out as bi in Batman: Urban Legends #6.

The next issue of Superman: Son of Kal-El will be released on November 9, 2021.
