While DC fans continue to be distraught that they won't see Sasha Calle reprise her The Flash role as Supergirl in the DCU reboot, another DC actress shares her disappointment for not being considered for the upcoming live-action role which ultimately went to House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock.
Supergirl VA Meg Donnelly "Can't Lie" Over Heartbreak of Losing Live-Action Role
House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock has been reportedly preparing for her upcoming DC hero role as Supergirl in James Gunn's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for 2026.
Still, DC fans are not easily sidetracked by the news, considering the wasted potential of not bringing back Sasha Calle's Kara or the likes of Crisis of Infinite Earth's Supergirl voice actress Meg Donnelly.
Recently speaking with Michael Rosenbaum on the Inside of You podcast, Donnelly admits she was "heartbroken" when DC didn't pick her to be the live-action of Superman's cousin.
"Yes, I definitely can't lie and say it wasn't," Donnelly explained, though detailing that "But at the same time, like, the fact that I even got an audition and the fact that they liked it and that I even had a chance was just bonkers."
Despite the heartbreak, Donnelly voices out that there was a good side that came out of it all, one of which was getting to portray Supergirl in the 2024 animation.
"Honestly, like, that is totally how I've been looking at it," Donnelly added looking on the positive side of it all despite not landing the live-action role on the big screens.
She also shared how being able to "actually screen test and be in that world" as someone who "grew up and obsessed with superhero movies in general" made her realize there were still "dope people" in the world who were "so nice" they made her feel "comfortable" behind the scenes.
Previously, even Calle herself offered nothing but support for Milly Alcock upon joining the new DC Universe DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, cheering on that Alcock should have fun being Supergirl in the comic book franchise.
