It seems like the women in Strong Girl Nam-soon are doomed to have failed marriages despite their gifts. Throughout the show, we wonder what happened to Gil Joong-gan's husband and why he hasn't been part of the show.
Hwang Geum-joo (played by Kim Jung-eun) has also separated from her husband. Is this a curse that the women of their family have to endure? With the return of Mrs. Gil's husband, what will happen to her new lover?
What Happened to Gil Joong-gan's Husband?
From the start of the show, Gil Joong-gan's (played by Kim Hae-sook) husband has been absent. She explained several times already that Hwang Guk-jong (played by Im Ha-ryong) suddenly left them years ago.
Mrs. Gil has been bitter about her husband's disappearance, which she perceives has long been dead. After all, he left without a trace and hasn't gotten in touch with anybody.
All of a sudden, however, Guk-jong suddenly calls his children to tell them he will be returning to South Korea. This was in episode 9, where the announcement was made.
Hwang Geum-joo and her brother, Hwang Geum-dong (played by Kim Ki-doo), are shocked by this since their mother has only started dating someone new. With his return, Mrs. Gil has to pick up the pieces of her marriage.
When she learns of his return, Mrs. Gil decides to pick up her husband at the airport. Upon their first meeting, Mrs. Gil gives her husband a soft tap. But given her strength, it's enough to send him flying across the airport onto a row of luggage trolleys. In the process, he injures his spine and gets hospitalized for surgery.
As it turns out, Guk-jong felt so horrible about losing his granddaughter, Gang Nam-soon (played by Lee Yoo-mi) that he decided to look for her non-stop. Knowing his granddaughter's love for climbing, his quest led him to the mountains of Tibet, where he found his calling to be a monk.
He continued to pray for his grandchild's return and vowed not to leave until his prayer was answered. He only decided to return because of his poor stomach and his desire to eat Korean food once again.
What Happens to Seo Jun-hee Now?
Now that her husband has returned, what happens to Mrs. Gil's new lover, Seo Jun-hee (played by Jeong Bo-seok)?
Right now, we don't know for sure what will happen to him. He did explain to Mrs. Gil that he did not intend to give up on her. He also promises that he will take care of everything.
Viewers can't help but question what Jun-hee plans to do. After all, he was simply a barista who couldn't even tell he was getting scammed by a deepfake video of his daughter.
This then points to a theory that some fans have. Given the timing of his arrival in the series and his sudden interest in Jun-hee, many can't help but think that he has a more sinister role.
Another clue that questions his interest in the matriarch is his sudden interest in Hwang Geum-joo's wealth.
Could it be that he is actually working for Ryu Shi-oh (played by Byeon Woo-seok) to keep an eye on Geum-joo? We will have to update this post once more information comes out.
