Although it may not have been the most gripping moment of Stranger Things Season 4, fans have definitely been wondering what is the painting that Noah Schnapp’s character, Will Byers, has been carrying?

The painting was clearly important to Will, as we see him holding the painting like a cherished relic during the first few episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 Part 1, before taking it with him to the airport to meet Mike (Finn Wolfhard).

The significance of Will’s painting has become more and more clear with every time Will suffered trying to give it to Mike. In the latest Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 8, the fans finally got to see what the painting is all about.

During the episode, Will finally makes the decision to reveal his masterwork painting to Mike while in Argyle's (Eduardo Franco) pizza delivery van on the way to find Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). Mike is losing confidence in himself, as he realizes that Eleven is a level of special that will eventually leave him behind, as he’s just the first boy she ever befriended after escaping. Will sees Mike doubting himself and tries to comfort him by showing the painting.

It turns out that Will’s cherished painting is an ode to his “Party,” the nickname of his group of friends (Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Max, Eleven) since the beginning of the series. The painting imagines the "Party" as actual warriors in Dungeons & Dragons, fighting a three-headed dragon.

While showing the painting to Mike, he pointed out Mike in front of the Party, leading them into battle against the red dragon. Will also gives a heartbreaking monologue about how Mike is the heart of the Party, and his brave spirit who always leads them forward. He also said that his heart and spirit are the qualities that Eleven values because when people are special, they need those people to be with them.
