There were so many emotional scenes in Stranger Things Season 3 but there is little doubt that the season finale was truly difficult for Millie Bobby Brown. After all, the young actress had to film two devastating moments for Eleven. Interestingly, Brown revealed that all the emotions in the scenes were absolutely genuine.
Brown recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about working on the last episode Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt. The Godzilla: King of the Monsters star revealed that she refused to rehearse the moment where El reads the letter Jim Hopper had left for her.
"They had prerecorded David [Harbour] and they played it out loud," Brown said. "I didn't want to read that speech. I didn't want to hear about it. I didn't want to rehearse it. I just immediately wanted to put a camera on me and find the way I react and the way I reacted was pure devastation and sadness, and a distraught child that just lost her father or so she thinks. So it was definitely a raw emotion, especially because David Harbour and I are really close. He is just one of the greatest men. I think something I admire about David is he respects girls and women so much. It felt so… I'm so gutted and I was like, ‘Oh, my God, this is horrible.' So the emotions were raw in that scene for sure."
Hopper was assumed to have been killed in the season finale, which explains El's devastation. However, there is one more emotional moment in the episode, this time as El and the Byers say goodbye to Hawkins.
"It was as emotional as it looked. We all said, ‘Let's just imagine that this [sic] the end of filming forever.' And we all started immediately crying as soon as they said, action. It felt really genuine and it was like saying goodbye to best friends," Brown revealed.
That's OK, Millie. We were bawling for real, too. Luckily, we also know that Stranger Things Season 4 could happen so we're looking forward to reunions in the future.
