Stephen Amell recently shared that there were discussions to do an Arrow movie but Warner Bros. killed the idea.
The hit CW series ran for eight seasons and turned the Green Arrow into a popular superhero in pop culture. Its success also led to the creation of Arrowverse which resulted in more DC shows that are set in the same universe.
Fans have been wondering whether the hero will end up getting his big-screen project as a result of the show's popularity. As it turns out, it almost happened years ago.
Stephen Amell Claims Warner Bros. Killed Plans for Arrow Movie
In a recent interview, Amell revealed that they were considering doing an Arrow movie following its huge success on the CW.
However, Warner Bros. killed the idea at a "studio level" due to a "fear-based" decision.
"I mean, I joked about it. Because I think that it would be wonderful one of these days to go back and do something that was in a medium where I could break bones and drop an F-bomb and just sort of go the 'hard r' [rating] version of Arrow," the actor said.
"To my understanding, it just got killed at the studio level from people that, I think, were making decisions… that were fear-based."
This sounds disappointing for some fans who might have loved the idea of seeing Amell's Green Arrow get his own big-screen adventure.
However, at that time, Warner Bros. was focused on the DCEU franchise which has its own cast, characters, and universe which is perhaps why they shut down the idea of doing a theatrical version of the CW series.
While it has a passionate fanbase, some could also argue that there is no guarantee that an Arrow movie will be able to attain the same success given the niche appeal.
It would be interesting to see whether DC Studios will be working on a Green Arrow movie or TV series as part of the DCU and turn the hero into a major superhero figure beyond what the CW version has done.
