Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Writer Had a Hard Time Coming Up With an Ending

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will go down in history as one of the most controversial installments in Star Wars history, as many fans felt that J.J. Abrams and Disney did all they could to please everyone in a pandering way. It has some great moments and a couple of awful ones but the movie will stay in your thoughts, for better or worse, especially if you're a diehard fan of this franchise.

In fact, the movie was in writer Chris Terrio's thoughts a lot since he and J.J. Abrams had a really difficult time trying to script an ending for this movie. As most of us know, the movie ended with Rey defeating Palpatine and embracing the Skywalker name, while also holding a fancy yellow lightsaber. Still, it wasn't easy for the two writers to script and we can't blame them since they're basically ending a decades-old storyline.

"J.J. and I were having a lot of trouble with the end of the film at one point in the process, and [production designer] Rick Carter said to us, "I think it's because you two don't want Star Wars to be over. You don't want the Skywalker saga to be over, so you don't really want to write it." And I think there was a lot of truth in that."

Honestly, it's kind of sweet knowing that the two were having a hard time ending The Rise of Skywalker since they were essentially closing a big chapter in this franchise's life. This is the end of everything Skywalker-related, at least until comics and books are made, so here's hoping the next chapter in Star Wars is fresh and interesting.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now available on digital platforms.
