Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Trailer Seemingly Teases Rey’s True Connection With Palpatine

It looks like a new clip for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is teasing a link between Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) and Rey (Daisy Ridley), and now the Star Wars fanbase is freaking out.

Lucasfilm just recently released a brand new trailer for The Rise of Skywalker on Star Wars' Twitter account, and in the 15-second clip, fans get to hear the ominous voice of Palpatine talking about everyone's favorite Jakku Orphan.

"It is time that she learns her story," the Sith Lord says in a menacing way as fans get to see Rey looking down at her hand in fear.

Could the trailer be teasing a familial link between Palpatine and Rey? There's been quite a number of fan theories suggesting that the Emperor could very well be Rey's grandfather, or that Rey could be one of the Emperor's clones.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have revealed Rey as the daughter of two drunken junkers on Jakku but fans doubt what Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) told the Jakku Orphan was fully true. Even though The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams says that he has no intention of retconning the origin that The Last Jedi introduced, there are those who still hold on to the hope that Rey might actually be the daughter of a legacy character like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) or Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor).

It would be interesting to find out that Rey was the result of Palpatine's plans after all. Let's wait and see what happens.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
