We finally know the title of Star Wars Episode IX and even got the first teaser for the highly anticipated film. But did the trailer actually confirm that the story is going back to a place we have already seen in Return of the Jedi?
In the teaser, Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, Chewbacca, BB-8, and new droid Dio are shown looking out at the ruins of what appears to be an ancient structure. However, at close inspection, the structure resembles the remains of Death Star II. The only place we know that could hold the battle station's ruins would be Endor.
This isn't the only time that The Rise of Skywalker has teased on a return to Endor, which was last seen in Return of the Jedi. Several photos that were shared during the Episode IX panel at Star Wars Celebration has led to speculations that the forest setting could be in the home of the Ewoks. Interestingly, this could mean that C-3PO could go back to being a god after all.
It's still unclear if we'll see the Ewoks in The Rise of Skywalker just yet. Nevertheless, it would be a fitting way to conclude the Skywalker Saga. Is Kylo Ren going back to the Death Star II in an effort to look for more Darth Vader relics? Or is he reaching out to the villain who once brought his grandfather to the Dark Side?
The new teaser concluded with a familiar laugh that Star Wars fans already know. It certainly would be interesting to see if Sheev Palpatine plays a major role in Episode IX.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is currently scheduled for release on December 20.
