Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Special Look Shows the Franchise's Legacy

The current Star Wars trilogy has received a bit of a mixed reception from fans. While both The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were received warmly by critics, viewers were critical with the two, claiming that the former was too much like A New Hope while the latter diverged too much from what makes the franchise click. We're not sure what Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is going to do but fans are hoping that it ends this uneven trilogy on a high note.

While we all wait for the film to come out, Disney and LucasFilm have decided to release a "special look" at The Rise of Skywalker, which is a lie-it's actually a nostalgic trip for Star Wars fans. There are comparisons to the fandom today to how it was back in the day, featuring looks at the premiere of older films and some of the merchandise that dominated/dominates toy stores today.

It's all good stuff and should get fans of the series a bit teary-eyed before they bawl their eyes out when Anakin Skywalker comes out at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. Well, okay, that's just speculation but when you consider how Disney keeps pulling Hayden Christensen out of events and social media posts, you know something is up.

As someone who actually liked The Rise of Skywalker and The Last Jedi (fight me), I have high hopes for The Rise of Skywalker. J.J. Abrams is a talented director, we have a talented cast, it should all work out.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is coming out on December 20.
