Despite the fact that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been dubbed as a finale to the current trilogy, not to mention the much-ballyhooed Skywalker Saga, it left a lot of questions unanswered. One of these questions fans have is what Finn wanted to tell Rey, which many assumed was that he loves her/has feelings for her, though Abrams himself has stated that it was to tell Rey that he's force sensitive.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, co-writer Chris Terrio commented on what Finn was going to tell Rey, though he himself doesn't give a straight answer. Terrio basically states that this could go either way since previous films do hint that Rey and Finn have feelings for each other, though he doesn't deny the whole force-sensitive thing, especially since Finn does react to it a number of times.
"Well, you can read that how you want to. There are some people who read it as Finn having feelings for Rey; there are some who read it as Finn trying to make that Force-related confession. What's undeniable is that in the middle of the battle, when the source of the navigation signal is changed, Finn has a very strong sense of where it is, and that's knowledge he couldn't really have unless he was using the Force."
In other words, interpret it as you would like. Even if it's far from the deepest mystery in this film and they easily could have solved it within the film's running time. Then again, there's so much wasted potential in this movie that Finn's unanswered question actually ends up being the least disappointing thing about what the film could have been.
