For the past few months, we've been hearing several updates on the Star Wars series The Acolyte as it is heading to production later this year. While most of the details have been kept under wraps, we do know that it is set around 100 years before the events of The Phantom Menace and will star Amandla Stenberg in the leading role.
Now, it looks like they have added another actor to its growing ensemble as Deadline has confirmed that Queen & Slim star Jodie Turner-Smith is joining the cast of The Acolyte. However, the details regarding her role are being kept under wraps for now.
Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is serving as the showrunner of the series. Production is expected to begin in London this late fall. Stenberg is the only confirmed actor to have joined the cast prior to the report of Turner-Smith's involvement in the series.
The series is described as "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era."
Turner-Smith made her breakthrough when she starred in the 2019 film Queen & Slim alongside Daniel Kaluuya. She also starred in other films such as Without Remorse, After Yang, and the upcoming Netflix films White Noise and Murder Mystery 2. She recently starred in the limited series Anne Boleyn where she played the titular figure.
It's always great to hear whenever a talented actor gets cast in a Star Wars project. Turner-Smith is certainly a wonderful addition to its ensemble and it's curious to see what kind of role will she play in the series. Considering that she's the second actor that was confirmed to be cast, it sounds like she will have a major role like Stenberg.
