Star Wars Teaches Young Fans About Learning From Failure With The Last Jedi

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have been a controversial film, however, it seems like the critically-acclaimed Star Wars sequel trilogy entry offers young Star Wars fans an important life-lesson on failure.

Star Wars has been offering fans unique lessons every week with its new segment Teaching with Star Wars, and this week, it looks like the website is offering a lesson on overcoming failure by returning to The Last Jedi.

In The Last Jedi, fans see Luke Skywalker hiding away on Ahch-To after losing his nephew to the Dark Side. While traditional Star Wars fans didn't quite enjoy seeing the Star Wars hero hide himself away like a cowardly hermit, the Teaching with Star Wars reiterates the reason why Luke became as jaded as he was in the movie.

"From his point of view, even with all of his talent and accomplishments, he was not able to teach his nephew to resist the pull of the dark side and become a Jedi. Why would he want to go down that path again, this time with a new student? He is having a hard time overcoming his perceived failure," StarWars.com explains.

Of course, as difficult as it is to see Luke hide himself in shame, the Star Wars legend learns from Master Yoda one of the greatest lessons – "the greatest teacher, failure is."

It's only human to fail, and while Luke Skywalker is one of Star Wars' greatest heroes, he too is human.

Luke then learns to accept his failure and begins taking himself away from the dark place that he's put himself in. Rising above his guilt and his shame, Luke uses the Force to help save the Resistance in the Battle of Crait.

Divisive as The Last Jedi might be, the film certainly helps teach fans about the importance of rising above failure.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is available for streaming on Disney+.
