Star Wars: Rumored Darth Maul Animated Show Reportedly Intended to Be Live-Action

Lucasfilm's expansion via Disney+ proved to be extremely beneficial for the Star Wars universe. When it seemed like all hope was lost for the franchise after the sequel trilogy failed to meet expectations, the streaming service delivered fans with arguably the best live-action Star Wars project in recent memory — The Mandalorian. The unprecedented success of the spinoff series paved the way for the production company to grow its library and spawn several more projects exclusive to the House of Mouse's namesake streaming service.

Speaking of, there are new rumors circulating around the web that Lucasfilm is working on a standalone animated series that will be headlined by beloved villain Darth Maul. The said project will reportedly take place before the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story so it would be safe to assume that we'll get to see the origin story of crime syndicate Crimson Dawn, a group which is run by Maul himself.

Now, we're getting a follow-up on this story and as per the folks over at LRM Online, the series, rumored to be titled Maul was originally intended to be live-action. Ray Park was once tapped to star in the series, reprising his role but the issues surrounding his personal life prevented it from happening.

I'm not gonna lie, it would have been neat to see everything unfold in live-action but considering how loaded Lucasfilm is currently, it would definitely be best for them to just work on an animated show which wouldn't require as much work if it were live-action. But you never know, there's still a good chance that Lucasfilm will end up changing its mind and scrap its animated concept.

Other details about the solo Darth Maul animated series are still being kept under wraps.
