Star Wars: Richard E. Grant Says The Rise of Skywalker Backlash is 'Inevitable'

We're only a few days away from the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker yet there are still some concerns about how the film will be received by fans. However, Richard E. Grant doesn't seem too worried about the fan reaction because he believes that the backlash is "inevitable."

Grant recently spoke to io9 about The Rise of Skywalker and he somehow suggested Episode IX will not be able to make everyone happy. Interestingly, he even likened people's reaction to the film to the Game of Thrones Season 8 backlash.

"Inevitably there will be a Game of Thrones syndrome to Star Wars because you can't please everybody all of the time," Grant said. "And the ending, what people want it to be and what it actually is, hopefully, for the majority of people seeing it, they will feel that they've had their wishes fulfilled. But inevitably there's gonna be people that don't feel that way. And you can't anticipate that."

He does have a point there. Nevertheless, Grant believes that director J.J. Abrams and writer Chris Terrio did an excellent job on The Rise of Skywalker.

"You have to do what is honest and true to you. And I think that J.J. and Chris have done that to the absolute ends of their ability," Grant concluded.

For now, we don't know much about Grant's character Allegiant General Pryde. However, we know that Grant is really good at playing characters with questionable motives so he's definitely someone to look out for.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will premiere on December 20.
