Star Wars: Rian Johnson's Trilogy Possibly Doomed Because of The Rise of Skywalker

The release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker marked the end of the Skywalker Saga and should make way for a new trilogy in the future. However, a new report suggests that Episode IX may have made it unlikely that we'll ever get to see Rian Johnson's planned Star Wars films.

There is little doubt that Lucasfilm and Disney had big hopes for The Rise of Skywalker. However, the film is currently suffering from mixed reviews and box office numbers that don't quite live up to expectations. For instance, Episode IX has the lowest opening weekend in the sequel trilogy. Unfortunately, this could mean that the studios are now rethinking the future of the franchise.

A report from ScreenRant suggests that things went downhill since the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which was directed by Johnson. Although the film still drew in big numbers for Disney and Lucasfilm, there was a huge backlash to the way Johnson tackled the movie. It is then pointed out that the studios might not be eager to bring Johnson back to the franchise.

There haven't been any solid updates about Johnson's Star Wars trilogy although the Knives Out director insists that it is still on the table. For now, we're just waiting for Disney and Lucasfilm to make an announcement about the franchise's future. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
