Ever since Dark Rey was shown in the D23 trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, fans have been curious about the character as well as her double-bladed lightsaber. While Dark Rey was only a vision, Rey fought off the character in the film which showed off the former's weapon even more. To explain the details in Dark Rey's saber, Lucasfilm Archivist Madlyn Burkert reveals how it came into fruition.

The saber has a switch-blade style that unfolds with a flick of the wrist. Early designs envisioned Dark Rey's saber to be created from Rey's staff, but it was deemed to be too much in line with the light side version of the character. So, in order to show the contrast between the two, the blade is decorated with black and red accents. "There's a lot of red details on this, Burkert told StarWars.com. "And we often associate that color with the dark side, with the Empire or the First Order."

The saber is held together by a pair of strong magnets while it's hanging off a belt. "If you are going to open it up, especially for a piece of action, there needs to be some weight to it, some deliberateness to it," Burkert says.

The weapon's ends are slick with an oil sheen to give the weapon a gritty and used feeling. "It kind of gives you that sense that heat has come out of this piece on the regular," Burkert says. The details show wear and tear as well as a few chips, which is important for Burkert as an archivist. "There are some parts of it that you can tell are painted to look like it's worn. And other elements that are clearly paint loss suffered during filming," she explains. "We like to keep it as is just to show us this is part of the life of this object."

The saber was a really cool piece and a design that effectively shows contrast between Rey and Dark Rey. What about you? What are your thoughts on Dark Rey's saber? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
