Star Wars Resistance May Tease The Return Of The New Republic In Episode IX

The First Order's Starkiller Base might have eradicated the New Republic's capital and its senate when it destroyed the Hosnian system in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, it seems like the New Republic wasn't entirely destroyed after all.

The second season of Star Wars: Resistance just recently revealed that at least one of the senators of the New Republic was off-world when the First Order obliterated Hosnian Prime in The Rise of Skywalker. According to Screen Rant, this could be taken as a sign that the New Republic hasn't been fully eradicated by the First Order.

In the Season 2 episode "A Quick Salvage Run", young resistance spy Kazuda "Kaz" Xiono receives a transmission from his father saying that he and the family managed to survive the Starkiller base's attack because they weren't on Hosnian Prime. Kaz's father was part of the New Republic senate. If Kaz's father and if Kaz's family survived Hosnian prime, then it's likely that there are others who have survived as well.

This is an interesting new detail for the franchise. The New Republic may be seen rising from the ashes in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Or we may at least see the New Republic rebuilding itself in the movie. After all, Star Wars Resistance takes place right alongside the major events of Lucasfilm's Star Wars sequel trilogy. The revelation that one of the senators of the New Republic actually survived the obliteration of the Hosnian prime suggests that the organization may have a bit of presence in Episode IX. Let's wait and see.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
