Star Wars: Mark Hamill Celebrates A New Hope's 42nd Anniversary

Today might not seem so special other than being a Saturday and you can enjoy the weekend all you like. However, on this day back in 1977, a truly remarkable film premiered and became a turning point for one amazing actor. Mark Hamill wants to remind about A New Hope, which was then simply known as Star Wars.

Hamill took to his official Twitter account to celebrate the 42nd (!) anniversary of A New Hope. Take a look at his tweet below.

"May The 25th 1977 Be The Day That Changed My Life Forevermore," Hamill wrote.

Here are some interesting details about Star Wars. George Lucas says he first decided to work on the idea for the movie back in 1971 after working on his first film THX 1138. However, it wasn't until 1973 that he began writing the script.

Lucas had several discarded ideas about the characters including the change from the name Starkiller to Luke Skywalker and Han Solo being originally envisioned as a green alien with gills. Interestingly, Chewbacca was actually inspired by his own dog who always served as his co-pilot when he was driving. Oh, and the Alaskan Malamute was named Indiana, a name that would later be used by another Lucas-made character Indiana Jones.

There's also some confusion about the film's title. Of course, it first premiered as Star Wars but was later given the subtitle A New Hope. The subtitle was first introduced in the 1979 book The Art of Star Wars and was adopted on the movie's theatrical re-release in 1981.

So if you were looking for a good way to spend your Saturday, you might want to celebrate A New Hope's 42nd anniversary today.
