Star Wars legend Harrison Ford remains as active as ever in showbiz, even having just celebrated his 80th birthday back in July. Harrison Ford had a couple of opportunities back in the 2010s to reprise his fan-favorite character as Han Solo in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. By next year, he will continue that same trend by portraying the iconic Dr. Henry Jones in Indiana Jones 5 which is set to be released on June 30, 2023. Indiana Jones 5 will be his first theatrical release since his 2020’s Call of the Wild, but it seems that he’s far from done bringing loveable and powerful characters to the big screen.
Just recently, Harrison Ford is even rumored to be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which could even come within the next few years. The rumor was shared by The Ankler’s Jeff Sneider, via The Hot Mic Podcast, saying that Harrison Ford may be in the running for a role in the upcoming MCU film, Thunderbolts, which is scheduled to be released in 2024.
As the rumor stated, Ford is (or, at one point, was) Marvel Studios’ top pick to play a recast Thunderbolt Ross, which was previously played by the late William Hurt in five MCU films. Sneider also stated that there were some signs that Marvel Studios considered announcing Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolts role during the recent D23 Fan Expo, though Lucasfilm and Disney didn’t want to reveal that information yet so as to not distract from Ford’s return in the upcoming Indiana Jones 5.
With the MCU’s Thunderbolts film still being a few years away from its release, the official confirmation for Ford’s casting may not come for some time, especially with the filming not likely to start until around 2023. As of now, Marvel Studios has not released any official statement regarding Harrison Ford’s casting in Thunderbolts.
MCU’s Thunderbolts film is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
