Kelly Marie Tran might have only played a supporting character in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but Rose Tico's lines as she saved Finn (John Boyega) in the Battle of Crait in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens sequel became a favorite among fans.
To many, the statement that reminded Finn that "We're going to win this war not fighting what we hate, but saving what we love," spoke true of the Resistance, and of real-life contemporary issues as well.
Now that she's set to return to the franchise in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Tran recalls the scene that she shared with Boyega and the enduring line that her character mustered.
Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tran talks about how powerful that line really is and how it represents Rose as a character.
"I think that that is such a good logline for what Rose represents," the actress told the entertainment news outlet, "I remember a lot of people after seeing the film would ask me questions about that specific line. I think the idea of it is: What is motivating our actions? And if your actions are motivated by love, it's such a powerful, wonderful thing. And I think that really does carry out in this film, in the things that we see Rose do."
Rose hasn't gotten too many scenes in the various trailers for The Rise of Skywalker, but fans have been told that the Resistance mechanic is going to get a level up in the film, taking on a leadership role in the organization.
Apparently, Rose has become the leader of the Engineering Corps in the Resistance – a role that we can't wait to see in Episode IX.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20, 2019.
