Finn (John Boyega) has been through so much since Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A deserter of the First Order, the former Stormtrooper has become one of the fighters for the Resistance, finding his resolve in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Now that Finn's story is set to come to a close with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premiering tomorrow, Boyega opens up about his character's development in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy. Speaking in an interview with Cinema Blend, Boyega is asked to talk about how much authority he has over the growth of Finn in the sequel trilogy.
According to Boyega, actors don't always get that much of a say when it comes to the development of their characters in massive blockbusters. However, after going through The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, the British actor was able to assert himself a bit more in Episode IX.
Apparently, the sequel trilogy star finally got the authority to tell The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams what he wants to happen to Finn in the upcoming film.
"Over the years I've gotten to know Finn much more," Boyega explained in his discussion with the entertainment news outlet, "Most of the time you're just waiting to hear what the writer has put to page when considering your character, and for me on this one, one thing I did want through this whole transition was for Finn to elevate and to advance; to definitely be much more strong, have much more confidence. That was something that I really hoped that was embedded in there."
Luckily, it seems like Abrams had the same idea as Boyega, and so Finn was written the way that the actor would want him. It seems like Finn's going to have more opportunities to feature more of that confidence in The Rise of Skywalker, and we can't wait to see how much the character's grown since The Last Jedi.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
