Star Wars: Hayden Christensen Says He Wasn't Asked to Return as Darth Vader in Rogue One

There is little doubt that people are loving Hayden Christensen's return as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, some believe it should have happened a lot sooner. Fans were hoping that Christensen was the one playing the Sith Lord in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. However, the Revenge of the Sith actor has revealed that Lucasfilm never reached out to him to play Vader in the Felicity Jones movie!

Back in 2016, audiences were blown away when Darth Vader appeared in Rogue One with two jaw-dropping and memorable scenes. However, it wasn't Hayden Christensen under all that armor and wielding a lightsaber. But why didn't the Attack on the Clones actor return for the film? Christensen revealed that he wasn't even asked to appear in the movie.

"I wasn't a part of any of those conversations about Rogue One," Christensen told Entertainment Weekly. "But I loved what they did with it. The character predates me, and it's always been a collective effort in a lot of ways. I thought it was brilliant."

But why isn't Hayden Christensen in Rogue One? The said scenes in the movie were mostly action sequences and would work better if handled by trained professionals. In the end, the scenes still worked out perfectly.

Of course, things are different with Obi-Wan Kenobi considering that Darth Vader will play a major role in the series. "It was so important to have Hayden be a part of this project because he is such a massive part of that character," Kenobi writer Joby Harold said. "It was a priority to all of us that we did it with as much care as possible, so as to honor one of the greatest villains and antagonists in the history of entertainment."

It's great to know that Vader is a major player in the show and we can't wait to see Hayden Christensen in action again soon.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney+ on May 24, 2022.
