Star Wars: George Lucas' Original Sequel Plans Included Huge Darth Maul Plot Twist

There is little doubt that the Star Wars sequel trilogy films took the franchise into an unexpected direction. But what would have happened if George Lucas was still in charge? Interestingly, the sequels almost saw an amazing Darth Maul plot twist that would have changed everything in the Star Wars Universe.

The revelation comes from The Star Wars Archives: Episodes I-III 1999-2005, which has been shared on Reddit. Amazingly, the notes reveal that Maul was supposed to be the main villain in the sequel films. In addition to that, the former Sith Lord actually mentored someone who would be the new Darth Vader.

"Darth Maul trained a girl, Darth Talon, who was in the comic books, as his apprentice. She was the new Darth Vader, and most of the action was with her. So these were the two main villains of the trilogy. Maul eventually becomes the godfather of crime in the universe because, as the Empire falls, he takes over," an excerpt reads.

This is truly interesting considering that people would have wanted a straight-forward villain in the Star Wars sequel trilogy films. However, it is also important to note that Maul was killed off a long time before the events in A New Hope as revealed in Star Wars Rebels so this wouldn't work at all.

What do you think of Maul and Talon being the main villains in the Star Wars sequel films? Would it have saved the sequels? Sound off in the comments below.
