Star Wars Franchise No Longer Focused on Lucasfilm Movies

While fans were hoping to hear more updates about Lucasfilm's upcoming Star Wars movies and series, Disney instead decided to drop the devastating news regarding the delays in the galaxy far, far away's new set of films.

Yesterday, the House of Mouse announced that it had decided to delay Lucasfilm's highly anticipated Star Wars movies, marking three different films for Dec. 23, 2023, Dec. 19. 2025, and DC. 17, 2027. While Star Wars fans can't help but feel devastated hearing the news, Inverse reminds the fanbase one important new aspect of the franchise – Star Wars is no longer just about movies any more.

The Star Wars franchise may have focused on its films, however, now that Lucasfilm's moving on from the Skywalker saga with the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Inverse notes how the studio's decided to bring the spotlight on a previously ignored medium.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian has been a major success for Lucasfilm, and it seems like the studio's decided to capitalize on streaming now that Disney has its own streaming platform. Star Wars: The Mandalorian season 2 is one of the most highly anticipated projects of 2020, and Lucasfilm just recently announced a brand new Clone Wars animated series called Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

Obi-Wan Kenobi and Captain Cassian Andor may not have release dates just yet, but both television projects are already in pre-production, giving the upcoming Star Wars shows a strong headstart on Lucasfilm's upcoming Star Wars movies.

It's no surprise that Lucasfilm has shifted its focus on television. The studios' television releases have always been a hit with fans – The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, The Mandalorian have all seen their fair share of success.

Let's just hope that more Star Wars content gets released this year.
