Star Wars Fan Fixes Obi-Wan Kenobi Series by Turning It Into a Movie

Obi-Wan Kenobi recently wrapped its six-episode run. While most fans were enthusiastic about the series overall, it also received some criticism for its pacing and felt that the story might benefit from a feature film format better. Now, a Star Wars fan took the matter into his own hands by editing the series into a two-hour-and-30-minute movie.

Star Wars fan Kai Patterson recently unveiled his feature-length film edit of Obi-Wan Kenobi which is available to download for free on his website. According to him, he decided to make the edit to fix the story's "awkward pacing," but he also made it clear that this edit is his "own artistic interpretation" of how the series can be turned into a feature film and did it out of love for the Star Wars franchise.

"The Obi-Wan show, in my opinion, suffered from things that were easily fixable in the script and in the edit," Patterson wrote. "Awkward pacing, whole scenes that ultimately amounted to nothing, goofy dialogue and directing choices, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and change what I could. I want to be very clear, this is my own artistic interpretation of how these scenes could be strung together to make something that works better for me personally."

Patterson also noted that he is not making any profits from publishing the edit and he encouraged fans to download it only if they're also a Disney+ subscriber to support "all the original artists" that are involved in the making of the series. So far, neither Lucasfilm nor Disney+ have made any comment regarding the fan edit that has gone viral.

It's been a norm in the fandom to do edits such as this and, in this case, it gives Star Wars fans an alternative look at the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi and see what it would have looked like if it's told as a feature film. It is also in alignment with writer Stuart Beattie's revelation recently regarding the project's origin as a film before it turned into a six-episode series.

We will never know what the actual results of an Obi-Wan Kenobi film would have looked like if Lucasfilm went with the original plan. At the very least, Patterson's edit gives us a glimpse of that and an answer to a "what if" question that fans might be pondering.
