Star Wars: Episode IX Theory Suggest Rey Might Be Related To Palpatine

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have revealed Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parents as nobodies from Jakku, but a few Star Wars fans are still hoping to hear that the Jakku orphan might actually be related to a legacy character like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) or Han Solo (Harrison Ford). There've been quite a number of fan theories about Rey's parentage, but the most recent one links to a legacy character that no one would expect.

According to Express, there's a fan theory going around saying saying that Palpatine might be the link to Rey's origin. Palpatine's return was teased in the very first teaser for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. At the very end of the video, we get to see Rey, Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac) walking across a field with the remains of Death Star II in its horizon. The scene cuts to black, and then we get to hear the familiar cackle of Darth Sidious.

In issue 25 of Darth Vader, fans get to learn that Luke and Leia weren't the results of chance. Fans have long since been speculating whether Palpatine used midichlorians to create Anakin, and then later on his children.

Darth Vader 25 confirms that Palpatine had a hand at the conception of Anakin and Amidala's children. If Sidous was able to do that, then could he also have a hand at creating Rey? That might seem unlikely given the direction that the Star Wars franchise is taking, but who knows, really.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to premiere on December 20, 2019.
