Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have to yet receive its first full trailer from Lucasfilm, however, it seems like fans are already littering the internet with all sorts of theories about the upcoming film.
One of the most recent theories has to do with a very familiar legacy character – Darth Sidious. In the very first teaser for The Rise of Skywalker, fans get to hear the familiar crackle of the Emperor ringing right after Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac) walk through a grassy hill overlooking the remains of the Death Star II. It's very hard to miss the cackle – after all, Star Wars fans who've gone through the original films and the prequel trilogy have long since familiarized themselves with Palpatine's voice.
Though the extent of Palpatine's presence in the third and final sequel trilogy entry has yet to be confirmed, Screen Rant claims that there are rumors that Palpatine will have Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) build another superweapon. According to the publication, the Emperor may have been manipulating Kylo Ren all along, nudging him towards Snoke and towards the Dark Side. As strange as it might sound, there is a theory saying that Palpatine's spirit/ consciousness has somehow been transferred into Darth Vader's mask. After all, Kylo Ren did pick up Vader's mask on Endor – the very same place where the remains of the second Death Star ended up being.
Whispering to Kylo Ren through the mask, Palpatine will reportedly have the estranged son of Han and Leia build another superweapon, possibly another Death Star. After all, the Emperor is fond of super weapons.
