Star Wars: Episode IX Leaked Poster Has People Wondering About R2-D2's Fate

People can't stop talking about the "leaked" Star Wars: Episode IX poster and all its awesome features. After all, fans are loving C-3PO's new look as well as the return of the Knights of Ren. However, there are a few things that seem to be missing in the image. Could R2-D2's absence actually mean something has happened to the droid?

A Reddit post recently shared a high-quality version of the leaked Episode IX poster so fans could get a better look at the image. At close inspection, you can now see all of the major characters as well as recognize Threepio's bowcaster as being similar to that of Baze Malbus in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It's also evident that one of the members of the Knights of Ren has a massive cleaver that would any chef would envy.

Interestingly, one comment pointed out that the poster doesn't show C-3PO's constant companion. "Where's the love for R2?! I see C-3PO and BB8 there with the new droid, but no sign of the main man himself!" they wrote.

Naturally, some fans wondered if it meant Artoo would only play a minor role or if the droid will be killed in Episode IX. Someone even joked that Threepio may have finally snapped and blasted his companion with the bowcaster. However. another comment stated that R2-D2 isn't the only one missing from the poster.

It is certainly strange that the Episode IX poster doesn't show Luke Skywalker or Leia Organa. Lando Calrissian, who has been confirmed to return in the film, is also notably absent.

There could be a good reason why none of these important characters are nowhere to be found. Mark Hamill had just debunked the Episode IX poster. "I'm pretty sure that's just the (wonderful) work of a passionate fan," he wrote on Twitter.

Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters on December 20.
