Star Wars: Episode IX Fan Theory Suggests That Snoke Was Actually Palpatine

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have been nothing but a critical and commercial success for Lucasfilm, however, Rian Johnson's entry in the sequel trilogy easily become one of the most divisive films in the franchise with a vocal group of Star Wars fans expressing outrage over the film's attempts at subverting fan expectations. Not only did these fans complain about how Rey (Daisy Ridley) was turned into the daughter of nobodies in the film, but they also ranted endlessly about how easily Snoke was killed in the film.

Now, as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker slowly approaches its release date, new theories regarding the third and final film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy continue to spring up online, one of the most recent of which involves both Snoke and Palpatine. The teaser trailer for Episode IX teased the Emperor's return, and according to Screen Rant, Darth Sidious might actually have to do with the First Order's Supreme Leader.

Chuck Wendig's Aftermath book trilogy which took place after Star Wars: Return of the Jedi revealed that Palpatine was seeking some sort of Dark power in the Uknown Regions. He also had plans called the "Contingency," an itinerary that was filled with revenge, mystical ceremonies, and plots for assassination intended to help take down the New Republic.

It wouldn't be a surprise to see that Palpatine actually used his power to create Snoke or an image of him, and then raise the First Order to what it is.
